Steve Ditko RIP

elanabrooklyn:

Steve Ditko was a brilliant artist whose work shaped popular culture. He
was exploited by The Bosses & spoke out about it. I only wish he’d
realized the solution was organizing, not isolation & Objectivism.
He needn’t have stood alone. #SteveDitko

Look at that panel! He was a genius of character design and use of negative space.

Ditko’s iconic Spider-Man under a lot of machinery sequence is both the most
Spidey and the most Ditko thing. Ditko was Peter Parker.

This is Ditko’s apartment ceiling still leaking because his slumlord
landlord sent his idiot brother as a repairman instead of a professional! Ditko is turning around pages & pages on
deadline but its never enough because rent is due and he needs to pay for a root canal and he doesn’t have health insurance. And oh
fuck now the goddamn leak from the ceiling got water all over one of his pages! This is what that feels like.

How would a Lord Paramount go about giving lands to his younger sons as was implied Ned was going to do for Bran & Rickon? Would he subdivide lands held directly by House Stark? Build new castles elsewhere in the North? If there was a lot of room in, say the Rills, would they swear to the Ryswells? What methods would their vassals prefer or resent more? Which ones would be the best for House Stark’s power? I would assume that giving them traitor’s castles would be preferred if available?

The usual method, as we see from the Greystarks and the Karstarks, is for the Lord Paramount to give younger sons holdfasts on recently-conquered land, on the principle that “of what does not belong to you or to your subjects you should, therefore, be a lavish giver, as were Cyrus, Cæsar, and Alexander; for to be liberal with the property of others does not take from your reputation, but adds to it.”
