You’ve often said that Lord Paramounts always keep the richest, most productive lands over their direct control when discussing feudalism. However something that seems weird to me keeping with this line of thought is why the Crown only kept direct control over the Crownlands, arguably one of the less productive regions in Westeros. Why didnt the Targaryens or the Baratheons carved for themselves a better fief?
