Shouldn’t wild dragons be a lot smaller than captured ones? I imagine it would be harder for a dragon to get the food it needs to grow on its own.

This is more of a thematic issue than a cryptozoological one. As GRRM puts it, “a dragon never stops growing, Your Grace, so long as he has food and freedom.“
