Was it ever common for rivals to pay off one of the castle servants to kill the king/lord in his sleep?

Well, assassination wasn’t particularly common, but when assassinations did occur, bribing a servant isn’t a bad way to do it, because they already have access to the building and don’t raise suspicion by guards, etc.
