How did knights transport their lances, for days and even weeks, prior to battle?

There’s a couple options:

  • If you’re just travelling, you lash it to the side of your horse.
  • Or if you might need it, stirrups were made with a socket that would hold the base of the lance and then you’d hold the lance upright with your non-reins hand.
  • Or if you had a squire with you, they would do one of those two things.
