I think Edric would have gotten less support since: A. boy king is less of a draw, and B. legitimized bastards have to deal with the legacy of the Blackfyres.
In the days immediately following his flight from the capital, do you think Renly, even briefly, instead considered crowning Edric Storm (especially to be his Regent) and arranging a marriage between Margaery and the bastard boy? Say he had, would Mace follow through? And if he did, how much support do you think Edric would receive compared to Renly IOTL?
