In the naval war between the North and the Vale wouldn’t it be reasonable to believe that the advantage would be with the North for control of the Bite? Considering the mouth of the White Knife is a harbor that lies close to the bay versus the Vale where their navy would anchor at Gulltown, it would seem to me that ships of the North would have less of a voyage to take control. This also doesn’t account for the ability of the North to supposedly build more ships due to their timber reserves.

On paper, yes. But it seems from the evidence that the North had neglected its naval defenses and that the Wolf’s Den and/or the houses put in charge of the Wolf’s Den were insufficient to prevent the Arryns from raiding up the White Knife.

By contrast, the Arryns had considerably invested in their naval resources as part of the process of expanding their rule to the islands off the coast of the Vale.
