They’d just murdered the Lord Paramount and his heir without trial. The North is not going to listen to a damn thing they have to say.
Why didn’t Aerys or since he was mad, then his hand or the more rational members of his council, not right away declare Eddard and/or benjen a traitor and appoint a steward or new Lord Paramount (looking towards Roose) as a way to fracture the North?
