In the most recent Catelyn chapter you stated that one of the reasons for Hoster Tully to join the rebellion was because Aerys murdered a Mallister who Hoster was duty bound to protect because they were his bannermen. You said specifically:
“if the King can murder bannermen at will without any response from their Lord Paramount, why should any lesser House agree to do any service to a Great House?”
If this was Hoster’s motivation to raise arms against his king, I find it quite paradoxical because during the rebellion Hoster fought and killed a number of Riverlords loyal to the Targaryens such as the Goodbrooks and put entire villages under his charge to the sword. So in essence by holding up his feudal duty to of his vassals, he reneged this same duty on a number of others as well as the smallfolk under his protection.
This makes me question what feudal obligation the Goodbrooks (maybe Darrys and Mootons etc) feel they owe the Tullys given the grievances they must still be raw about due to Robert’s Rebellion?
I see a bit of a difference there. Hoster’s bannermen, who owe him feudal service, raised up arms against him. Jaremy Mallister didn’t raise up arms against the king.
