Because I feel the definite article is superfluous.
This is a super-minor nitpick but why do you use ‘Battle of Blackwater’ and ‘War of Ninepenny Kings’ when in-text it is always ‘Battle of the Blackwater’ and ‘War of the Ninepenny Kings’?
