I think you misunderstood my earlier question on Duskendale–there is no question that violence occurred during Aerys and Lord Darklyn’s meeting, that Gwayne Gaunt was killed during this, and that Aerys was taken prisoner. The questionable part (to my mind at least) is that this was all Lord Darklyn’s plan the entire time–I think it’s likely that Aerys escalated things during the “negotiations” (and had planned to the entire time) and things went South from there… Any thoughts?

Oh, I see. Here’s my thinking: you don’t invite the king after refusing to pay your taxes without some sort of plan to make use of the king’s physical proximity, because that’s not exactly a strategy likely to gain royal assent to a charter.

So I could definitely see Aerys escalating things to violence when Darklyn had hoped for a more bloodless scenario, but I think there must have been some plan to seize the person of the king.
