If Elia wasn’t killed in Tywin’s sack of KL, would there be any danger in Robert taking her for a queen? I know probably not since she could no longer have kids, but has anything like that happened in history. As a way to unite a kingdom? Though it probably sucks for her: I killed your husband and kids, now marry me.

It happened a lot historically – Genghis Khan was infamous for it, for example – but I don’t think Robert would have gone for it. To begin with, the Martells are the smallest of the Great Houses who weren’t part of the Northern Alliance – so why would Robert try to get them onside, rather than the Tyrells or the Lannisters?
