Sorry if this is an obvious question, but when it comes to Edmure’s child, why would he be safe if its a girl and unsafe if its a boy? As they mention, if its a girl they’ll marry her to a Frey, but if its a boy they’ll kill Edmure. The Freys could strengthen their claim to Riverrun by wedding the girl, but the boy wouldn’t serve this purpose so they’d need to wait for a girl and the boy dies ‘stillborn’, right?

The Freys want a male lord of Riverrun with Frey blood. So if Edmure has a son, they don’t need Edmure anymore, because the Tully claim is now inextricably linked to the Freys.

However, if Edmure has a daughter, then her claim is questionable – BRYNDEN Tully could legitimately proceed her in the line of succession.
