I’m trying to make sense of what happened at the tower of joy. How did Ned at. al. know to go there? What was his goal? What orders were the KG following? Why was there a conflict that led to a fight to the death? Both sides had to be concerned about the heath and safety of Lyanna and the baby. How did he tear down the tower? That should have taken months, even it it were possible without heavy equipment. How could the Daynes so easily accept Arthur’s death at Ned’s hand? Any ideas? Thnx. JzB

I think Ned knew because Ashara told him, and his goal was to rescue his sister.

The Kingsguard were under orders to protect Rhaegar’s son and, after the Sack of King’s Landing, his heir. They fought to the death out of loyalty to House Targaryen.

Tearing down the tower probably would not have taken that long – undermine a load-bearing wall and you could have the thing down in a day or two.

The Daynes accepted Arthur’s death, I believe, because of the death of Ashara and Ned’s daughter.
