I think Oberyn insisted on going to KL, and according to the timeline, Oberyn left for KL a month before Quentyn left Plankytown and when Quentyn left, Oberyn’s death was known in Sunspear for some time as it had happened well over two weeks prior.
Oberyn wasn’t alive when Doran sent Quentyn to Essos? Quentyn’s Essosi journey must have been in the works a long time and must have taken him a long time to get there. Couldn’t Doran have sent Oberyn to Essos, and Quentyn or Arianne to King’s Landing?
